Pigeons

Pigeons – Ben Burns
Often times these nights will end in front of me
Sleeping in our coat our throats are sunderly
We can see where our knees hit the road
Running free through the empty tree grove
He built his bed small so he could sleep alone
High above the pigeons and the telephones
Out at sea where the cedar boats row
Down the breeze from the places we’ve known
He believes that the circles do flow
Round his head leaned against the window
All I’ve become is the sum of everyone
And our feet grow tired when lonely is the standard
From all of what I’ve seen of your dancing on the screen
Still I do believe we may be better strangers
I know life ain’t lonely but lonesome
And I’d spread my love like fire if I owned some
Then one day I would take your fingers
From the cheeks that grin to speak these wrong words
If the city spits them whole then they’ll be bound to roam
If we can catch them while their skin is still tight round their bones
Then we’ll see how the leaves blow tumbling
From the holes in concrete streets we live in
That we tripped inside while we were fumbling
With all your keys so we could let you back in
All I’ve become is a monger for the sunlight
Through the cracks in walls where lonely is the standard
From all of what I’ve seen of your dancing so obscene
Still I do believe we may be better strangers

Deep Blue Eyes

Deep Blue Eyes – Holly McGarry
Take me back
To the day when I
Nearly drowned
In your deep blue eyes
The air was warm, restless
and I watched the words
fall from your lips
The waves were crashing all around me
When time starts moving too fast
I start to lose my grip on the past
And I would trade all my yesterdays
For one more day with you
I don’t know
Which way we are being pulled
But the stars are sewn into the sky
To guide us on our way
Down down into your arms
Down down below the waves
Take me back
To the day when i
Nearly drowned
In your deep blue eyes
When time starts moving too fast
I start to lose my grip on the past
But I would trade all my yesterdays
For one more day with you

Beautiful Pain

Beautiful Pain – Ben Burns
August keeled over, the key to the fall
Outstretched in his sun-dipped and calloused right hand
Dead on the threshold of outside and in
How the sirens wailed high
How the rains came again
Now I’m not afraid of the two-wheeled machine
That now I find rumbling under my feet
Who said a hilltown could bury the song
Of the life that he sold that his boy may stand strong?
Six one dollar bills
American skills
The carpenter’s boy
Seven long dreary days
Fifty-two ways
To die without pay
How to break even when the work is all gone?
I was born to live full, never meant to live long
Take care of mother when it falls in my lot
That I rise to my own with the peace that I sought
See that the fire is stoked in the dawn
You’re the man of the house now my body’s gone
Lord let me die with a hammer in hand too
When the flood finally comes I can watch from the roof
Six one dollar bills
American skills
The carpenter’s boy
Two long dreary years
The flesh disappears
The houses still stand
See the dollar, it kills
Cities to mills
The carpenter’s boy
Seven long dreary days
Fifty two ways
In beautiful pain

Catacombs

Catacombs – Holly McGarry/Chris Bloniarz/Benjamin Burns
Sing to them
Deep in the catacombs they already know your name
Know your name
Quickly now
The shadows grown on and on,
And on and on in your soul
In your soul
All of those nights spent pacing the floors
All of those wishes that just washed ashore
All of those letters that all went unsent
They’re sorry too
Did you know
There are bones piled up in the lake at third street pier?
No one hears
They’ll sing to you
All night long and on and on,
And on through the years
A song to the stars
All of those nights spent pacing the floors
All of those wishes that just washed ashore
All of those letters that all went unsent
They’re sorry too
Sing to them
Deep in the catacombs they already know your name
Know your name
All of those nights spent pacing the floors
All of those wishes that just washed ashore
All of those letters that all went unsent
They’re sorry too
Sing to them
Deep in the catacombs they already know your name

Greenline

Greenline – Holly McGarry/Ben Burns
I used to carry all the world upon my shoulders
Just to bring it to your feet
Now there’s a ghost who rides the greenline every morning
Looks a lot like me
It’s been years since you left home
Faded pictures on my walls are all that’s left
But you still haunt me
Now who’s to say what lies beneath this flesh,
Hollow bones & and aching heart?
The nest we built by hand, twig by twig
Just cracked and fell apart
Wove your words into my songs
Tried to hide all the scars beneath the lines
And the lies that you told
Never understood your smile as you said,
“I miss you but I’m glad that you’re gone”
Was it the way good-bye tasted on your lips?

Speculations on Passerby – Ben Burns/Holly McGarry
They want to live inside some wooden house
Where Junebugs fly and they
Could wash their golden hair
And sleep through Saturdays
There’s something bout the time when night is young
And you share an age
Reminding them of dreams
On sleepy Saturdays
Would they find beyond the doors
The life that they asked for
Or would they see that it’ s just me?
Summertime inside their blue jeans

Thick As Blood

|

Thick as Blood – Holly McGarry
Tell me where it all went wrong
We had ties thick as blood
Thick as nails but all the tales we told
Turned out wrong
Tell me where you lost your way
Will I find you there someday?
I don’t know which way you’re going
I don’t know what path I’m on
But I’m out here, I am searching
And I’ll search till the dawn
Say what you will but I’ll be fine
Say what you will to make it through the night
The moon is lonely but the seas are calm
This is for the father and the son
It'll all pass, it'll all get easier with time
It’s been a long while lay your arms down
And rest your weary minds
Rest your weary minds

Watershed

Watershed – Chris Bloniarz
Little did they know
That every afternoon of
Hanging out, getting by
Did you once wonder why
Little came to be
Of all the inspiration
Flowing out, going 'round
Back and forth in a cloud
Of data racing through our minds
Waiting to be realized
Briefly entertained before it died
Even with the best intentions
There's no telling
Up against the watershed
We turn the tide
Will we see the day
When all the schemes and dreams
Will come alive in real time
Rather than your alibis
Smothering the flame
Before it ever even
Got a breath of the air
Fan the fire if you dare
Watch it burn, overturn
Any self-defeating urge
Thought combusting catalyzing wave
Even with the best intentions
There's no telling
Up against the watershed
We turn the tide
Feedback loops that we're entrenched in
Lying softly
Time will tell if we'll prevail
And finally see
I don't know what will become of me
Everything I think could be misleading me
Oh I thought we had it right
Well at least I know I tried
For a time

Chipping Away the Paint (Reprise) – Chris Bloniarz/Holly McGarry
Something always calls me back
Blue and bright a crackle and a stutter
Static ringing just behind my ears
Where’s the soul that made a home
Of flesh and bone the shadow of another
Much has passed although you really tried
I have always been afraid
Of watching you slip away
You can’t change what cannot be saved
I don’t want to always want to be afraid
Of watching you slip away
Days they fall and time it fades to grey
Chipping away the paint
As if there was a word to say
There was a word to say
